Why Windbourne Speed is now my favoriete ele skill...
Last night I was playing on my ele, helping out some guildmates with the Shiverpeaks 15 att quest, and I decided to use an air build with Windbourne speed. Just after we zoned outside, someone had to go afk, so to pass the time, I would cast windbourne speed on myself and run around in circles. After doing this a few times a guildie got jealous and asked me to cast it on him, so I did. One thing lead to another and before you knew it I was randomly casting it on people in the party then watching them run around eratically.
After the person who was AFK got back, we started actually going about the mission, fighting from Iron Mines towards Copperhammer. At one point I was on the phone with one of my guildmates and she was laughing about how her pet pig's ears would flop around when he ran, so I cast windbourne speed on him and we cracked up at the floppy little bacon rocket.
As we got close to Copperhammer, we decided to kill all the enemies and clear the way before getting Sanyi and finishing off the quest. After the way was clear and a guildmate talked to Sanyi, we sat and waited for the pipe-smoking hag to slowly trudge her way to the spot that we needed her. After someone complained about how slow she was moving, a lightbulb sparked in my head.
I'm using Windbourne Speed on Sanyi!
Amusingly enough it actually worked. Since she was going at a snail's pace before, the 33% speed boost made her travel at about normal running speed for anyone else, but she did change from her walking animation to a running animation.
Anyways, I know WS isn't the most useful skill in combat, but damned if it's not the most fun. That and the next time I help someone out with one of those long boring NPC escourt missions, I'll know to bring my ele.

In Heroes Ascent, my teams usually co-ordinate with each other on Vent so that sometimes a warrior would ask for Windbourne Speed (during a critical chase of an enemy) and it would often prove to be the difference between killing a person and having them run far away and get healed. Also on Relic and Altar maps it's a valuable asset.

Here's another place where it would be useful. In my first run through the game, I was doing the Iron Mines of Moladune mission, the one where you get infused. Everyone said we were running to infusion and so I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to test out Windbourne Speed, a skill I hadn't been able to use. So I brought it and who made it to the Seer? The mesmer using Illusion of Haste and me, the elementalist using Windbourne Speed. Granted the warriors took the brunt of the attacks, but still, it was nice.

I use Windborne Speed in PvP to help monks run away from warriors.. or any other character to escape (mainly from warriors/pets). It's a good skill to have, it's much like a snare on the warriors, but you are actually making the monk faster.
